Banya is a village in Razlog Municipality, in Blagoevgrad Province, Bulgaria, laying 4 km to the east of the town of Razlog and at about the same distance to the north of the ski resort of Bansko. Banya was first settled by the Thracians around the 4th century BC because of its thermal springs.
The village of Banya is located in the heart of the Razlog valley, carefully guarded by Rila mountain, Pirin mountain, and the Rhodopes. It is the oldest settlement in the southwestern mountainous region of the country and a fantastic current-time tourist complex undergoing massive development.
In Bulgarian, Banya literally translates as “Bath.”
Banya is blessed with an abundance of hot mineral springs. As many as 75 springs spring in its territory, making up ⅓ of all mineral springs in Razlog valley and Southwestern Bulgaria.
The waters have an average temperature ranging between 37 and 57 degrees Celsius and are used for SPA, recreational and industrial purposes.
