Cave City is located between the Thracian lowland and the Rhodope Mountains. The cave is located 125 km southeast of Sofia, 40 km southwest of Plovdiv, 20 km south of Pazardjik and 15 km north of Batak.
The city alpha elevation 300-499 m above sea level, covers an area of 90,245 km ² and has a population of 19,302 inhabitants (census 01/01/2007).
Peshtera is an old city, was recognized with a number of archaeological discoveries. Findings remain Thracian fortresses, bridges and paved roads, proving that it appeared that a settlement in the fourth century BC.
One of these is a cemetery with several bronze vases and a marble plaque with a Thracian horseman depicted on it. Also, the areas surrounding the site and Dol Barakovski Beshdere still preserves the ruins and places of ritual.
City name ("cave" meaning in Bulgarian) Peshtera is believed to come from the large number of caves in the vicinity, including one of the most beautiful in Bulgaria - Snezhanka (Snowwhite).
The cave is located 6 km from the village harvest Radylovo museum, displaying local participation in rebellion in April 1876.
Artificial lake "Batak" and summer resort "St. Constantine" are at a distance of 15 km from the city. During summer, the beach and offers excellent fishing and winter skiing.
