Trojan is part of the district town of Lovech is situated on the river Beli Osum the northern foot of Troyan-Kalofer Mountain, 35 km south of Lovech. It is a mountain resort known for treating lung diseases.
It lies at an altitude of 300-499 m above sea level, covers an area of 60,243 km ² and has a population of 22,348 inhabitants (census 01/01/2007).
The origin of today's settlement is believed to date from the 15th century, when Bulgaria fell under Ottoman rule, a lot of Bulgarian refugees have fled to settle in the forested region. The city has progressed to the early 19th century, when it was repeatedly invaded by Kurzhalii the so-called Turkish robbers.
In the 19th century monastery near Trojan has developed a large market which preserves tradition and very much today. Every year from June to September - thousands of people come to Fair Oreshak traditional village craftsmen.
Queen of the fair is undoubtedly Trojan pottery style, which abounds in beautiful colors of the land in Bulgaria and has the expression cheerful character of its people.
The city lies about 160 km from the capital city, Sofia. The nearest civilian airport in Gorna Oryahovitsa is located at a distance of 105 km. Beli Osam River passes through the heart of the city.
