Vidin is a town on the south bank of the Danube in northwestern Bulgaria. It is situated near the borders with Serbia and Romania, and is also the administrative center of Region Vidin.
Vidin is the most important port on the Danube in western Bulgaria, located on one of the most southern section of river. A ferryboat complex, linking Vidin Calafat on the opposite bank of the river is 2 km from the city. The complex will be replaced with a bridge over the Danube, whose construction will be completed probably in 2011.
Vidin is a few kilometers from the ruins of a monastery carved into the rock of his time Stratsimir and Czarina Anna.
