Yambol Region is situated in the south-eastern Bulgaria. It is bordered by the regions of Sliven, Burgas, Stara Zagora and Haskovo, and south of the border with Turkey. The landscape is predominantly plain and hill. Plain region comprises Yambol, Elhovo
Plain, the hill Bakadzhik, parts of Mountain Sakara, Svetliyskite, Derventskite and Manastirskite heights. Tundzha is the largest river in the region. The dam is built on the river Malko Sharkovo Popovska.
