About Teteven - presentation, information, photos and recommendations
The city is part of Teteven Lovech district, located in the north-western Balkan Mountains in central cavities. It stretches for 12 km along the valley of Vit river, stretched like a spring tail, thereby explaining the etymology of the name.
It is situated at an altitude of 300-499 m above sea level, covers an area of 110,788 km ² and has a population of 10,870 inhabitants
(01.01.2007 census).
Teteven Teteven municipality is the center. In the city can be reached by bus or car. Regular buses run to Sofia (110 km) and district towns of Lovech (70 km).
Picturesque city located along the two banks of the Beli Vit River, between the Balkan Mountains and Mountains Vassiliov. It is located 116 km northeast of Sofia, 74 km south-west of Lovech, 60 km west of Troyan, 23 km south-east of Yablanitsa to 54 km east of Botevgrad. People's poet Ivan Vazov said about the city: "If we come to Teteven, I was a stranger to Mother Bulgaria, too ..."
The settlement came in the second half of the 14th century, but evidence of colonization in the region refers to its appearance in ancient times.
The region has been inhabited since the remote past. Saint Iliya Monastery dates back to early medieval Bulgaria. The earliest written information about the settlement are contained in a document dated 1421. Tetevyan name was mentioned.
