Near Kavarna, about 12 km east of Cape Kaliakra is located where the ancient city was discovered Tirisis. According to legend, it was a hiding place where his treasures Lyzimah, successor of Alexander the Great. During the Roman Empire, the city was named
Tetrasiada, then during the Byzantine domination - Akre, and in the Middle Ages - Kaliakra. Today there are quite many remains of these ancient settlements and some of them can be seen exhibited in a small museum housed in a limestone cave. There is a legend
that tells the story of several Bulgarian girls who chose to jump off high rock, hair tangled with each other to be changed to avoid religion in Islam by the Turks.
Nowadays Kavarna is a modern city, especially famous rock festivals and concerts held every summer.
